One of the few bright spots of 2020 was this recent discovery of local ice cream ingenuity…
During this pandemic, we’ve been staying sane in part by going on walks with friends. We’ve mostly walked in the Alewife Reservation and enjoyed watching the baby swans and glaring at the non-migratory geese. But occasionally, we’d pursue a more urban route and end up at Davis Square. During one walk, we set the arbitrary, albeit utterly defensible, goal of getting a pint of ice cream at JP Licks. As expected, the list of delicious flavors presented a dilemma – how to narrow down to just one flavor? I ordered cinnamon burnt sugar pumpkin pie, not realized that was two flavors, not one, and the worker behind the counter said the magic words ‘Oh, do you want a half-and-half pint?’
That’s right – you can combine TWO FLAVORS in a single pint! After I paused to let this revelation reverberate through my reveries, I responded ‘Yes, yes I would’. And it gets even better – they put the flavors side-by-side (vs. the clearly subpar top-and-bottom) so that it’s easier to acquire both flavors in a single scoop. So it turned out that I effectively CREATED a new flavor – cinnamonburntsugarpumpkinpie – and it was delicious.
We here at North Cambridge Gazette now challenge you, dear reader, to suggest your own half-and-half pints. Or, even better, go to JP Licks and create said pints, then let us know what you created and how it was. Let’s share our discoveries, both delicious and disappointing, and get through this winter like true New Englanders -with copious amounts of ice cream.
Any ice cream combination of chocolate and more chocolate is good for me!
This is important information that every NoCa citizen needs. Thank you, North Cambridge Gazette!
